The Camp Counselor plays a vital role in fostering character values such as responsibility, respect, compassion, and empathy toward all living beings. Through hands-on education and positive engagement, this position helps inspire a more humane, informed, and proactive community among campers of all ages. Camp Counselors support and deliver Camp Humane programs and related projects in a professional, engaging, and mission-driven manner.
This role requires participation in mandatory pre-season training scheduled between May 18–29, 2026, as well as full availability for all Camp Humane sessions running from June 1 through August 6, 2026. The position is seasonal and concludes on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
The Camp Counselor reports to the Outreach Manager and works collaboratively with the Outreach Team and the Volunteer Program to ensure a safe, enriching, and impactful camp experience for all participants.
Responsibilities- Assist with the planning, preparation, and daily implementation of Camp Humane summer programs; able to lead programs independently and collaboratively.
- Work effectively with individuals of all ages—from young children to older adults—in a variety of settings, including large groups, one-on-one interactions, and on-camera presentations.
- Deliver educational programs both onsite and offsite throughout the community, engaging participants from diverse backgrounds and neighborhoods.
- Lead, manage, and engage group programs such as camps, classroom presentations, scout groups, and other youth-focused educational experiences.
- Organize, plan, collaborate on, and deliver engaging educational presentations and activities.
- Demonstrate a strong passion for working with children in grades 1–12 in both indoor and outdoor learning environments.
- Adapt to last-minute program or schedule changes with flexibility, professionalism, and a positive, solution-oriented attitude.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with children, parents, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Perform general office duties, including preparing educational materials, maintaining program records, and responding to emails and phone inquiries.
- Work well as part of a diverse team of staff and volunteers, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
- Complete all required online training and assigned course work by established deadlines.
- Follow oral and written instructions accurately and consistently.

- Minimum Knowledge and
Skills Required:
Strong organizational, group management, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint), G Suite, and standard email and internet platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including confidence speaking in front of large groups of children and/or adults of varying ages.
- Demonstrated ability to use tact, discretion, diplomacy, and sound judgment when working with volunteers, staff, and the public, while operating within established policies, procedures, and legal guidelines.
- Experience handling confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and care.
- Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility when navigating diverse personalities, projects, and evolving priorities.
- Commitment to maintaining a positive, professional work environment; expected to refrain from gossip or behaviors that undermine teamwork.
