Job Summary
Under general direction, is responsible for the planning, implementation, and promotion of environmental educational programs for the general public. Programming may occur on and off-site in both urban and natural settings. Trains and recruits volunteers in support of educational programming. Exercises no supervision.

Work Schedule7:30 a.m.
- 4:00 p.m., Tuesday - Saturday. Shifts are subject to change to include evening, weekends, and holiday shiftwork, as dictated by business needs.
- Establishes curriculum and develops educational programs relating to the biology and/or conservation of flora and fauna of the region.
- Develops and implements an effective media campaign including the development of promotional material.
- Solicits and trains volunteers and other staff as needed.
- Organizes and maintains volunteer support for a wide variety of activities, and maintains tracking system of volunteer activity.
- Writes and edits volunteer e‑mail newsletter, media announcements, and other articles and publications relating to the educational program.
- Organizes resources for monthly educational programs and maintains tracking system of educational activities and participation.
- Presents at schools, clubs, and other outside organizations.
- Develops cooperative programs with other organizations and institutions.
- Implements in‑house training programs.
- Photographs all program presentations and maintains educational displays.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Two (2) years of relatable experience.
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
- Experience in interpreting natural resource and cultural history topics to adults and children.
- Experience providing educational programs to urban populations.
- Familiarity with volunteer recruitment and engagement strategies.
- Knowledge of local flora and fauna.
- Special event management experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience in evaluating programs using performance measures and making adjustments to programs as needed.
- Experience collaborating with community groups.
- Fluent in English and Spanish.

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full‑time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.
One year of full‑time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre‑employment drug testing and background checks.
If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
- Knowledge of interpretive program design and delivery, including the management of education programs, events and outings.
- Knowledge of media resources and the ability to produce quality promotional material.
- Skill in the proficient operation of personal computers and associated software.
