Position: Open Rank Faculty of Nursing (Mental Health Focus)

The School of Science, Engineering, and Technology y's University, a private, four-year Catholic and Marianist Hispanic-Serving Institution, invites nominations and applications for tenure-track or non-tenure-track faculty, depending on qualifications, faculty position in Mental Health Nursing to support the continued growth of the new Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.

The BSN program, approved by the Texas Board of Nursing, welcomed its inaugural cohort in Fall 2025 and reflects St. Mary's longstanding commitment to preparing nurses who are ethical leaders, compassionate caregivers, and advocates for social justice and the common good.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Teach in a two-semester academic year.
  • Teach courses in their areas of expertise, as assigned by the Founding Director of Nursing, covering both theoretical knowledge and practical/clinical applications.
  • Demonstrate and maintain proficiency in their subject areas through continuing education programs, advanced degree and certification programs, conferences, and seminars, and by keeping current with the professional literature.
  • Design and update instructional and learning activities for the classroom and clinical settings based on pedagogical principles which help students engage as active learners, and develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and flexibility.
  • Become adept at incorporating relevant advances in teaching technology to the extent they enhance teaching and student learning.
  • Exercise judgment and resourcefulness in preparing instructional plans to reflect changes in the area of study, and to keep the program at the leading edge of development.
  • Exercise effective classroom management skills.
  • Evaluate students' accomplishments with appropriate assessment/evaluation instruments/tools.
  • Collaborate with clinical entities used for clinical experiences as provided in contractual agreements.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work supportively and harmoniously with and maintain rapport with students, faculty, staff, and other constituencies.
  • Maintain the level of decorum expected in the academic environment.
  • Participate in curriculum development, program review, and revision in their subject areas.
  • Participate in University scholarly, grant, and/or research activities; engage in scholarship, relative to discipline
  • Provide input to faculty/department/college meetings
  • Demonstrate professional leadership by participating in non-teaching activities for the benefit and recognition of the College, e.g., community service, activity in professional organizations, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS Education and Licensure
  • Tenure-Track:
    Doctoral degree in Nursing (PhD, DNP, or EdD required).
  • Non-Tenure-Track:
    Minimum of a master's degree in Nursing.
  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license with eligibility for licensure in Texas.
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR for Healthcare Providers
Professional and Teaching Experience
  • Minimum of two years of full-time clinical nursing experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in mental health nursing or related specialty.
  • Evidence of, or potential for, excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service aligned with the Catholic and Marianist mission of St. Mary's University.
  • Experience in simulation, innovative teaching strategies, or educational technology preferred.
  • Experience in curriculum design, accreditation processes (e.g., CCNE), and program assessment strongly preferred.
Scholarship Expectations (Tenure-Track Faculty)
  • Engage in a sustained program of scholarly productivity contributing to the science of nursing education and/or clinical practice, consistent with Boyer's model of scholarship (discovery, integration, application, and teaching).
    • Empirical or theoretical research articles
    • Educational innovation studies or pilot projects
    • Descriptive papers of innovations in nursing education
    • Systematic, scoping or integrative reviews, or scholarly essays
    • Co-authored manuscripts reflecting collaborative scholarship with colleagues or students
  • Demonstrate a record or clear potential for peer-reviewed dissemination.
Service and Leadership
  • Active participation in departmental, school, and university committees.
