Job Summary

PREP Instructors work with a Program Assistant Mentor (PA) to deliver in‑person instruction of one integrated STEM course. They attend required professional development, maintain grading, and provide students with formative and summative assessment feedback. The PREP program will take place during June and July 2026; candidates must be available for the duration of the program, with specific dates varying.

Core Responsibilities
  • Be available to work a full seven‑hour workday, Monday through Thursday.
  • Attend all required professional development days prior to program start date.
  • Report to class and other assigned duties on time.
  • Teach one integrated STEM course in person Monday‑Thursday at your assigned campus.
  • Be available at least one hour per day for one‑on‑one tutoring.
  • Organize and/or develop special project days for students in conjunction with your PA, if applicable.
  • Attend all staff meetings.
  • Provide students and their PA with clear grading procedures and a description of program components.
  • Administer all quizzes, exams, and student surveys provided by the instructional team.
  • Grade all homework, quizzes, exams, midterms, and final.
  • Give proper notice (at least 1 week in advance) to your PA when supplies are needed.
  • Compile grades and submit final grades to the PREP Site Coordinator as required.
  • Consult with the appropriate PA on student status weekly.
  • Inform PA of your standards and expectations.
  • Follow the same rules and guidelines set for students and PA as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Serve as a positive role model and facilitate participants' personal growth and academic motivation/achievement.
  • Be receptive to other responsibilities, as requested by the PREP Lead Instructor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Valid teaching certificate.
  • Experience teaching K‑12 students.
  • Experience implementing and delivering instructional materials and evaluation tools.
  • Experience teaching STEM‑related courses.
  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Blackboard or a similar LMS.
  • Proficiency in inquiry‑based learning pedagogy.
Preferred
  • Experience sponsoring a STEM competition team or club.
Working Conditions
  • Ability to travel to assigned campus Monday‑Thursday.
  • Classroom environment.
  • Ability to monitor students while they work on activities and provide instant feedback or probing questions.
  • Works with sensitive information and maintains confidentiality.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to set the classroom and materials for daily instruction.
  • Distribute activity materials to student groups.
  • Exerts up to 5 lbs of force occasionally.

This position will work primarily on campus
. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
