Cosmetology Certified Instructor - San Antonio, TX

Summary: Redefine what’s possible in public education. As a Cosmetology Certified Instructor at Compass Rose Public Schools in San Antonio, TX, your primary responsibility is to prepare all students with the academic, technical, and social skills necessary to persist and engage productively in their communities. You will teach three sections of cosmetology and three sections of theater or another high school elective, in partnership with the school leadership team, ensuring students receive both practical career skills and a well-rounded elective experience.

Learning at Compass Rose goes beyond the classroom. You teach academic and technical skills to prepare students for success in higher education, cosmetology careers, the arts, and beyond, as well as social and emotional skills to build collaboration, self-management, and resilience.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Have at least a High School Diploma or GED
  • Holds Active Cosmetology or Barbering licensure with the State of Texas.
  • 1-2 years of experience
  • Pass a criminal background check

Highly Preferred:

  • Experience working with school-aged children

Your Responsibilities

Instructional Delivery

  • Set academic expectations that challenge and create productive struggle.
  • Persist with the lesson, ask probing questions, and address student mistakes until there is evidence that students demonstrate mastery of the objective.
  • Consistently implement an 80/20 classroom where 80% of the time students are engaged in rigorous practice, different types of thinking, and doing the heavy cognitive lift to take the initiative of their own learning.
  • Convey accurate content knowledge in multiple contexts.
  • Integrate learning objectives with other disciplines.
  • Always present content that is reflective of and affirming to students' identities and brings awareness to global context.
  • Adapt lessons to address the individual needs of all students and provide differentiated instructional methods and content to ensure students have the opportunity to master what is being taught.

Learning Environment

  • Procedures, routines, and transitions are clear and efficient to create a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment.
  • Consistently engages in community and restorative circles with students.
  • The teacher builds trust authentically and cares for the whole child as well as the family unit the child is a part of.
  • Advocates for the needs of students in the classroom.

Professional Practices and Responsibilities

  • Meet professional standards by the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators and Compass Rose Employee handbook/policies (e.g., attendance, professional appearance, and behaviors, timeliness to work, meeting deadlines, using discretion with confidential information, using good judgment in performing responsibilities).
  • Set short- and long-term professional goals based on self-assessment, reflection, and supervisor feedback.
  • Engage in professional learning communities and meetings.
  • Participate actively in a minimum number of student recruitment events annually (as determined by network and school guidance).
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regularly regarding and not limited to academics, attendance, social-emotional well-being, etc.
  • Exemplify the mission, vision, and goals of the school to students, colleagues, parents, and families.
