Reports to: Principal
Summary
The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ-centered environment. The Teacher is to be immediately responsible to the principal for the carrying out of policies of the school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio as they relate to the function of the school, the classroom, and the immediate contact with students and parents.
PositionResponsibilities
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others
- Protects the confidentiality of information or material obtained in the service with the organization, including client names, services rendered, donor names and gifts, investigations, and financial information
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy
- Demonstrates a solution-oriented, team-focused approach aligned with the Mission and Vision
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the school's curriculum requirements with written evidence of preparation
- Prepare lessons accommodating differences in student learning styles
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, Department of Catholic Schools, and administrative regulations
- Plan and use instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment reflecting students’ learning needs
- Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instruction
- Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals and methods (DCS requirements)
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor approved outside activities
- Be a positive role model for students and support Catholic education
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning, developmentally appropriate
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook
- Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and instructional materials
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues and community members
- Use effective communication skills to present information clearly
- Participate in staff development to improve job-related skills
- Stay informed of Department of Catholic School regulations and policies for teachers
- Compile and maintain required reports and records
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees as required
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- A Bachelor’s degree
- Certified Teacher preferred
License and Credentials
- 12 credit hours in education courses or a valid state certificate
- Technology proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet use, and multimedia presentations
- Demonstrated competency in the subject area(s)
- Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
Minimum Knowledge And Skills
- Knowledge of subject; general knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Detail oriented, organized, self-motivated; able to work independently and on a team
- Good written and verbal skills
- May be required to work some weekends and nights
- Must work a full school day
- Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills
