Information Specialist, Digital Scholarship Developer – UTSA Libraries and Museums

Leverage technical knowledge and skills to plan and implement library projects focused on making scholarship relevant to the community; utilize digital methods that value interdisciplinarity, collaboration, and critical inquiry. Advance student success and research excellence at UTSA by supporting research and instruction services, developing and maintaining strong faculty relationships and facilitating meaningful use of the Libraries' information resources.

Salary Range
:
Starting at $60,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours
: up to 40 hours per week, exempt.

Core Responsibilities
  • Uses technical knowledge and skills around digital scholarship methods and technologies to achieve library digital scholarship goals, foregrounding technical praxis, co‑creation, and community engagement.
  • Oversees the digital scholarship project lab and staff.
  • Develops and maintains applications, platforms, and tools that support digital scholarship projects and initiatives using extensive technical skills and knowledge of digital scholarship best practices.
  • Supports and advances the work of the Community‑Engaged Digital Scholarship Hub, a collaborative effort between librarians, faculty, or community members.
  • Serves as a subject liaison, providing research support and instruction services to students and faculty and related library responsibilities. Selects and evaluates materials in all formats to support areas of subject responsibility. Manages collection fund accounts for assigned areas.
Required Qualifications
  • A MLS/MLIS/MIS degree from an ALA‑accredited institution or a master’s degree in a related field.
  • Two years’ experience developing digital content and information resources.
  • One year experience providing teaching and instruction to university students or using technical skills and knowledge to support and advance digital projects in a professional environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, build, cultivate, and sustain strategic partnerships with library colleagues, faculty, and community members.
  • Knowledge of or experience with data analysis and visualization and mapping tools such as Python, R, Tableau, Power Bi, NVivo, Open Refine or ArcGIS.
  • Knowledge of or experience with tools for collaborative research such as Git Hub and data repositories.
  • Expertise in digital scholarship, which may include digital collections/archives, project management, natural language processing/text analysis, visualization, network analysis, and/or collections as data (digitization, OCR, metadata, transcription, etc.).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data science skills, such as those related to AI, machine learning, advanced data analysis, statistical analysis, or knowledge of computation environments and/or working with large data sets.
  • Ability to work independently with varied user groups in a complex organization and to function collaboratively in a changing team environment.
  • Enthusiasm for continual learning and professional development.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
Preferred:
  • Experience working with others to create a digital storytelling exhibit, podcasts, and multimedia content.
  • Experience creating and conducting workshops or training sessions in an academic or professional environment.
  • Experience in providing consultation and guidance in data discovery, analysis, management, and/or visualization.
  • Experience managing staff and/or graduate students.
