Overview
The Child Development Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in delivering a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children, including those with special needs. The role helps implement the curriculum and ensures children’s basic needs are met, with a focus on positive guidance and active participation in learning activities.
Base pay range$15.00/hr - $15.00/hr
Responsibilities- Implement plans designed by the teacher. Assist with lesson planning and facilitating the daily schedule.
- Arrange space, equipment, and materials in the classroom and outdoors.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, child-centered environment.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate administrative paperwork including meal counts and incident/illness reports.
- Assume responsibility for the teacher in her absence and for projects as delegated by the teacher/director.
- Report all incidents and emergencies to the teacher/director.
- Provide general care (toileting, feeding, diaper changes, etc.).
- Engage with children and encourage development across domains.
- Support developmentally appropriate skills for each child (e.g., alphabet, numbers, colors, sounds, daily living skills).
- Modify activities to include children with disabilities to ensure full participation (seek guidance when needed).
- Observe and document children's activities and progress; share information with the Lead Teacher.
- Use positive behavior guidance techniques and coregulate behavior in a trauma-informed manner; promote appropriate behaviors.
- Use descriptive language to guide children and promote self-regulation.
- Engage with and communicate effectively with people from diverse cultures and communities (children, guardians, staff, and other partners).
- Supervise children at all times with attention to health and safety; follow active supervision guidelines.
- Respect each child and family’s culture; demonstrate professionalism, kindness, and dignity.
- Develop and maintain a supportive rapport with parents/guardians; maintain confidentiality of information about staff and families.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher, Site Supervisor, or Director.
- Minimum of two years of direct care and/or childcare experience
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to pass all background checks
- Ability to complete paid new hire orientation training
- Experience working with children with developmental disabilities is preferred
Family Day Out – Every Saturday, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Starting salary: $15.00/hour with consideration for education and experience
