Salary Range$85,000-$109,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

The University of Texas at San Antonio seeks a dynamic leader to serve as Director of the Center for Archaeological Research (CAR). CAR is a contract archaeology facility, state‑accredited collections repository, research unit, and community liaison. The new director will:
- Partner with the Department of Anthropology to provide training and research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Support the University’s commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution by demonstrating sensitivity to the educational needs of diverse populations.
- Further community collaborations and commitment to public education.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in Anthropology or related field from an accredited institution.
- Seven years of experience in cultural resource management or heritage administration.
- Experience in all phases of CRM, including bidding, contract acquisition, project design, implementation, personnel and budget management, and report writing.
- Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing.
- Demonstrated independent decision‑making and problem‑solving ability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.
- PhD in a related field from an accredited institution.
- Innovative vision for a 21st‑century, university‑based contract archaeology facility.
- Strong executive skills and leadership experience.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills that enable effective collaboration with academic units, university administration, government agencies, and external constituencies.
- Record of scholarship and research.
- Willingness to pursue research in Texas and adjacent regions (Texas experience preferred).
- UTSA is a tobacco‑free campus.

- Valid driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record as applicable.
- Office environment.
- Travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business‑related events.
- Occasional after‑hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.
- Sedentary work; sitting most of the time.
- Exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
