J1 Visa Teacher
- Special Education

Position Overview: Compass Rose Public Schools is seeking a J-1 Special Education International Teacher to join our team in San Antonio, Texas, starting on January 1st, 2026. We are seeking educators with experience in Resource and/or Behavior Units at the secondary (middle or high school) level who can confidently support students with significant physical, verbal, and emotional behaviors at this level.

The ideal candidate takes strong initiative to create a structured and consistent environment where all students can learn, teaches core content aligned to IEPs, and maintains strong collaboration with staff and families, always seeking to equal parts build relationships with students and uphold high behavioral expectations. The teacher must be skilled in safely managing and de‑escalating behavioral outbursts, including using safe restraints, using evidence‑based strategies to support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral development.

Applicants must hold a Special Education certification in their home country, have the financial means to live and travel to the US independently (i.e. airfare, down payment for Apartment Rental, and First and Last Month's rent in Texas), and meet all J-1 Cultural Exchange Program requirements. Qualifications
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required
  • Hold an active Special Education K‑12 and core content certificate
  • Minimum 1-2 years teaching experience
  • Can pass a criminal background check

Your Responsibilities
Planning
  • Directs, monitors, and mentors teacher fellows working with students who have disabilities.
  • Performs a variety of assessments and observations to determine the areas in which the student may need extra or modified educational services.
  • Assessment areas may include academic performance, behavior, social development, or physical health.
