The Chief will have the opportunity to shape the future of pediatric emergency medicine growth in South Texas – continuing the expansion of this established, stable program, mentoring the next generation of physicians and leaders, and establishing long-term leadership impact in one of the nation’s most dynamic and expanding pediatric markets. Opportunity
The successful candidate will provide strategic and clinical leadership for a dedicated pediatric emergency medicine program with responsibilities including:
- Delivering exceptional clinical care to critically ill and injured children in an Pediatric Emergency Department setting
- Oversight and advancement of section operations, quality initiatives, and administrative priorities
- Leading a highly skilled team of 28 Pediatric Emergency Medicine physicians and 16 advanced practice providers (NPs/Pas)
- Teaching and mentoring fellows, residents, medical students, and staff
- Collaborating closely with pediatric subspecialists and hospital leadership to support program expansion
This key role is employed by Baylor College of Medicine and reports to the Chair of Pediatrics. It includes a faculty appointment within the Department of Pediatrics along with highly competitive compensation and full benefits package. The successful candidate’s credentials and experience will determine the rank of the academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
Candidate Qualifications- MD/DO degree
- Completion of an accredited Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship
- Board certified in General Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics
- Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
- Eligibility for Texas medical licensure
- Demonstrated leadership experience and commitment to academic pediatric emergency medicine
CHRISTUS Children’s (Level III pediatric trauma center) is home to the first pediatric emergency room in San Antonio and continues to provide pediatric emergency care to newborns to age 17 through the city’s only emergency centers dedicated exclusively to children. In a typical year, CHRISTUS Children’s main campus provides care during a total of 50,000 emergency department visits with seamless access to a broad range of Baylor College of Medicine pediatric subspecialists including cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, nephrology, ENT, general pediatric and orthopedic surgery and more.
