Eligibility Advisor I – Temporary (CCC)

Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual to join our Access and Eligibility Services (AES) division. This temporary position is expected to end on 08/31/2027 and may allow transition to a regular status position based on performance and availability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interview applicants and recipients in person or by telephone to gather financial and personal information to determine eligibility.
  • Evaluate and enter data into a computer‑based eligibility system.
  • Compute and authorize benefits based on determination.
  • Process work in compliance with state and federal regulations and established procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Use fact‑finding techniques to obtain, relate, and evaluate information.
  • Read, understand, apply, and explain detailed regulations and policies.
  • Perform basic arithmetic functions.
  • Manage time efficiently and establish priorities.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Follow written and oral directions.
  • Operate computers: data entry, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Use soft‑phone technology if required.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Preferred: 60 semester or 90.Parameters quarter hours from an accredited college or university.
  • Required:

    1 year customer service experience with public contact.
  • Substitution: 30 semester or 45 quarter hours may be substituted for required experience.
  • Preferred: experience interviewing clients and gathering personal information in‑person or over the phone.
Additional Information

Selected candidates must sign a Temporary.grp Employment Agreement and may be eligible to transfer to a regular status position. The role may require overtime—including weekends—and a background check. Applicants must comply with E‑Verify and bring I‑9 documentation.
