Position Summary
The Broadcasting Graduate Assistant is responsible for all aspects of broadcasting: set up, on-air play by play/color analysis, and clean up with the goal of creating, managing, and maintaining content that strategically enhances the brand of the University of the Incarnate Word in all external communications. The Broadcasting Graduate Assistant reports to the Athletics External Relations Manager. This is a student position open to current UIW graduate students.
EssentialFunctions
- Works with the broadcasting team throughout the year, assisting in many roles relating to broadcasting services with UIW Athletics.
- Serves as the on‑air talent (play by play/color analyst) for all football games both home and away, as well as all home games for men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, and men’s and women’s soccer.
- Serves as the on‑air talent for additional events, as assigned by the Assistant Director of Brand Engagement.
- Manages all aspects of broadcast operations: including broadcast rundown, ensuring all radio spots are played correctly, running online audio streams, and working with UIW staff to execute sponsorship assets.
- Interviews student‑athletes and coaches for pre‑game/post‑game shows and content features.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Self‑starter and ability to work without supervision.
- Familiarity with broadcast equipment and audio boards.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Able to work nights and weekends.
- Team‑player mentality offering help for the greater good of the team and department.
- Adherence to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
- Current UIW graduate Communication Arts student.
- Students awaiting acceptance from UIW graduate program may also apply with job offer contingent upon acceptance.
One (1) year of experience with a television or radio outlet.

Required Certifications, Licenses or RegistrationsMust have a valid driver's license, an insurable driving record under UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age as required to drive for UIW.
Work HoursRequired to travel during football season, with the possibility of additional travel for playoffs or other sports coverage.
Physical DemandsAbility to lift equipment, tools, and/or materials weighing up to 25 pounds waist high.
