Who We Are:The SwRI Communications Department coordinates corporate messaging for internal and external audiences, sharing news about upcoming events, new policies and procedures, technical program successes, and staff accomplishments. The candidate for this position will join a full-service creative team specializing in visual communication solutions, translating complex ideas into compelling visuals, and creating designs that convey news and information using images, typography, layout, and color.
This position is located in San Antonio, Texas.
- Support and enhance SwRI’s visual brand identity through high-quality, on-brand designs across print and digital platforms.
- Collaborate with staff members to deliver creative solutions that align with technical goals and audience needs.
- Produce compelling visual content for marketing, signage, infographics, internal communications, websites, events, proposals, and reports - both single page and multi-page documents.
- Execute design projects from concept to final production for print and digital media: brochures, flyers, posters, reports, banners, exhibit graphics, PowerPoint presentations, and web assets, applying SwRI branding guidelines & accessibility standards across all deliverables.
- Prepare digital-printer-ready files for printing in our in-house print shop or at external vendors.
- Develop infographics and illustrations to clearly communicate technical or scientific content and support production of SwRI-branded presentations in PowerPoint.
- Collaborate closely with writers, editors, photographers, multimedia producers, and clients across all divisions.
- Contribute to concept development, visual planning, and internal creative reviews, while managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and adapting to evolving priorities.
- Requires a Bachelors degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or related field with relevant experience.
- 2 years:
Professional experience in a design studio, agency, in-house team, or similar and ability to interpret technical content and visualize complex ideas clearly. - 2 years:
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and solid knowledge of file setup for digital printing and digital production. - 2 years:
Working knowledge of Microsoft
365, particularly PowerPoint and Word templates, and Figma or an equivalent design system. - 2 years:
Demonstrated experience with layout, typography, color theory, and branding and familiarity with accessibility standards (Section 508 & WCAG) for documents, presentations, and websites. - A valid/clear driver's license is required.
