Estimator, Building & Residential Construction
This team member will prepare detailed trade scopes and cost estimates for projects that support the strategic plan of the company.
Organizational RelationshipsDirectly supervises:
Quantity Surveyors, Estimating Interns
- 5+ years of estimating experience in commercial construction
- History of securing successful design-build, design-bid-build, and CMaR projects
- B.S. / B.A. in construction related discipline or equivalent combination of technical training and construction experience.
- Demonstrates behaviors consistent with the profile of a Bandy Person
- Have a solid understanding of how the construction industry operates in regard to sourcing, partnering, and trade subcontractor business operations.
- Have a complete understanding of all construction systems, cost estimating and budgeting, and delivery methods
- Working knowledge of material unit costs, systems square foot costs, and total building square foot costs
- Advanced organizational skills and ability to multi-task to consistently meet deadlines
- Ability to identify and anticipate project obstacles, challenges, etc. and determine effective solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prepare detailed estimates for projects up to $30 million
- Proven ability to build relationships with Owners, Architects, and Subcontractors
- Proficient with Estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to learn software programs quickly
- Perform all duties with a manner and attitude that promotes a cooperative and respectful work environment
- Professionally communicate with Owners, Architects/Engineers, and Subcontract and Vendor partners with positive results; for Owners that means being viewed as someone who is a true advocate of the Owner and can be relied upon; for Architects/Engineers that means being viewed as a collaborator who is a positive influence on the team; for our project partners that means being viewed as a fair resource and contact in their attempt to secure new business
- Insure all estimating activities comply with established company policies and procedures
- Obtain all required bid documents and attend all pre-bid meetings
- Prepare detailed trade scopes for all required project elements
- Prepare detailed or conceptual estimates depending on project status and needs
- Prepared detailed estimates for all self-perform items including demolition, concrete, carpentry, openings, and specialty items installations
- Assure all estimates are accurate and reflect all project requirements
- Develop and document detailed notes, quantity surveys, and estimating thinking for Purchasing and Construction Operations
- Participate in bid day activities
- Participate in meetings with Project Management & Construction Operations
- Assist in the maintenance of the Master Vendor list
- Develop and maintain Subcontractor and Vendor relations
- Keep current with changes and trends in methods of construction and materials, construction costs, wage rates, fringes, and working rules
This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical DemandsThis is largely a sedentary role; however, some bending, stooping, and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.
Additional RequirementsDue to the nature of this role, local travel will be required up to 25%. Driver’s License, personal vehicle and auto insurance must remain current at levels deemed appropriate by Bandy Constructors and employees must remain in good standing for insurability purposes.
