Traveling Superintendent – Self Perform (AFG)
JE Dunn Construction invites applications for the Traveling Superintendent – Self Perform (AFG) role. This position focuses on managing complex self‑perform projects, traveling to assigned sites, and supporting the company’s safety, quality, and EEO commitments.
Key Responsibilities – Core- Lead the company’s safety culture, mentoring others to maintain an injury‑free environment.
- Manage subcontractors, organize workflow, and coordinate self‑perform work plans.
- Oversee staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and Programs such as Safety, Quality, and EEO on small or major projects.
- Coordinate site care, custody, and control, and lead daily stand‑ups, trade meetings, and project OACs.
- Create, manage, and adjust the project schedule with the Project Manager; track budget and costs using the project management system.
- Communicate key project information to owners, design teams, authorities, subcontractors, suppliers, and other departments.
- Maintain documentation: updates to drawings, logs, diaries, and inspection notebooks; complete daily and weekly reports.
- Support MOC (Material and Other Costs) and DLSC procurement and approval processes; assist in selecting formwork, tools, and equipment.
- Ensure quality compliance through specifications, QA/QC standards, and in‑house/outside resources.
- Supervise pre‑punch activities and coordinate closeout with owner, architect, and authorities.
- Partner with field leadership to establish staffing and with project management to identify schedule and cost impacts of changes.
- Recruit and develop top talent; promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, applying JE Dunn’s non‑discrimination policy.
- Manage stand‑alone projects from start to finish with full responsibility for scheduling, production, safety, and quality.
- Identify, understand, and actively manage project risks; recommend solutions for review and implementation.
- Manage deliverables from internal resources such as Logistics and IPS; participate in project pursuits and negotiation processes.
- Accurate, complete, timely work performance.
- Intermediate verbal and written communication; intermediate presentation skills; intermediate proficiency in MS Office, scheduling software, and JE Dunn construction technology.
- Fundamentals of construction management and Lean principles.
- Understanding of specific trades, scopes, and self‑perform labor productivity.
- Budget management, profitability maximization, and future work generation through relationship building.
- Organizational structure awareness, layout skill, crane flagging, rigging, and document change impact understanding.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (Preferred).
- 5+ years construction experience.
- 3+ years field supervision experience.
- Experience with Lean principles (Preferred).
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s license required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; periods of travel/relocation possible.
- Exposure to extreme conditions; willingness to work non‑traditional hours.
- Frequent activity:
Standing, Walking, Climbing, Bending, Reaching, Pushing, Pulling. - Occasional activity:
Sitting, Computer screen viewing.
