"Assistant Teacher (Part‑time) – Playhouse Southside Early Learning Center
This part‑time assistant teacher supports- YMCA’s mission by supervising children in compliance with YMCA and Texas licensing regulations. Under the guidance of the Site Director or Program Director, the assistant teacher provides a safe, supportive, and enjoyable environment and directly leads program activities.
Essential Functions- Supervise children’s arrival and departures, accounting for attendance.
- Supervise children at all times in small and large group activities.
- Direct and assist children with learning activities, including homework.
- Implement daily enrichment activities.
- Supervise and safely lead recreational activities.
Provide age‑appropriate behavioral guidance and support. - Maintain program and facility cleanliness according to YMCA guidelines and standards.
- Build partnerships with parents, school day care personnel, and the community.
- Distribute snacks and@property meals in accordance with DFPS regulations.
- Clock in and out on time daily.
- Complete required ongoing training (Fall and Spring services, 40 developmental assets, Redwood trainings, minimum 6 hours per semester, site‑based meetings, all‑staff meetings).
- Participate in school and branch events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Adhere to all YMCA safety procedures.
- Must be at least 18 years old with a minimum of 6 months of childcare experience.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Obtain a minimum of 15 hours of continuing education training hours.
- Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA‑approved basic lifesaving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and emergency oxygen.
- Develop and maintain harmonious relationships by promoting caring, honesty, respect and responsibility with staff, YMCA members, and program participants.
- Act as a positive role model to children, displaying emotional maturity and stability at all times.
- Plan, organize, and implement age‑appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Have prior experience building authentic relationships with diverse populations.
- Work is performed in an active environment.
- Must communicate with staff, children, and parents.
- Position requires high levels of attention and alertness.
- Visual acuity required for child supervision.
- Regular stooping, bending, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Stand and walk for long periods, including running and sports participation.
