This position is responsible for the physical and financial procurement of commodities and raw materials for the Company. It will manage the execution of raw material sourcing, procurement, and supplier performance, focusing on the physical supply for CH Guenther’s milling assets, managing market risk, and overseeing the sourcing, costing, and pricing of raw materials. The role supports quality, service, continuous improvement, and value performance across the supply chain in direct support of CH Guenther & Son, Inc.
and its operating divisions, with focus areas including fats & oils, cocoa & chocolate, dairy products, sweeteners, and other items as required.
- Responsible for the corporate financial exposure of raw materials relative to future cash flows
- Maintain awareness of market conditions; create financial projections and gain approval/buy‑in for strategies to mitigate price volatility
- Conduct weekly market updates with Management as needed
- Accountable for actual vs. budgetary and market performance
- Report on physical and financial commodity positions
- Develop budgets
- Execute contracts and manage contract performance
- Communicate expected costs
- Update and manage SAP financial records
- Resolve and communicate financial concerns
- Accountable for market view and strategy development
- Create supply and demand reports
- Maintain CFTC and USDA databases
- Manage sales initiatives related to procurement
- Service both direct and indirect production facilities through centralized procurement of raw materials
- Manage grain receipts, contract application, and month‑end reconciliations
- Handle inbound rail tracking and demurrage costs
- Ensure physical supply to CH Guenther’s internal milling assets and supplier performance
- Adhere to service commitments, specification commitments, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Problem‑solve, mediate, and resolve issues
- Identify and execute cost‑saving projects, sales, quality assurance, and research initiatives; create strategic partnerships and supply agreements
- Manage commodity service contracts
- Set tactical and strategic goals/objectives
- Lead multidisciplinary teams for continuous improvement initiatives
- Facilitate updates to communicate relationship results
- Communicate market conditions, costings, and outlooks as needed
- Bachelor’s Degree required:
Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Supply Chain, Business, or related discipline preferred
- Minimum of 5 years experience in grain or oilseed origination and risk management
- Understanding of truck/rail logistics management
- Knowledge of production agriculture and farm profitability factors
- Knowledge of grain futures, futures spreads, and basis relationships
- Knowledge of grain quality management and its commercial opportunities
- Knowledge of grain flows and ability to capture market opportunities
- Practical interpersonal and strong written/verbal communication skills
- Track record of quickly identifying and resolving problem areas
- Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Flexibility and adaptability to a rapidly changing environment
- Strong Excel‑based analytical skills
- SAP experience preferred
- Travel: ~15% or as required
