We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Accountant to support a large, complex organization in a structured and deadline-driven environment. This role focuses on general budget-related accounting work, including preparing and reviewing journal entries and performing account reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of accounting principles, is comfortable working with financial data, and enjoys contributing to sound financial management and reporting. Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements- Minimum of 3–5 years of professional accounting experience
- Experience with data entry and financial record maintenance
- Experience preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting
- Experience working with financial data in a structured accounting environment
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Knowledge of applicable federal regulations and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) Standards.
- Experience handling monthly postings, reconciliations, and reporting for GASB 87 and GASB 96, including entering leases, contracts, and amendments accurately into lease management software.
- Support budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis
- Maintain accurate general ledger records
- Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies or trends
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and accounting standards
- Support audits and provide requested financial documentation
- Collaborate with internal departments on financial matters
- Experience supporting budget development or financial planning activities
- Experience in a large, public-sector, or regulated organization
- Familiarity with ERP or enterprise accounting systems
- Experience with month-end and year-end close processes
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods
- Ability to concentrate on detailed financial work for sustained periods
- Ability to lift 10-20 pounds
- Minimal physical exertion required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certification (or progress toward certification)
- Ongoing professional development in accounting standards or financial reporting
