Summary
The Accountant is responsible for performing all duties required in maintaining a complex double-entry commercial type accounting system integrated with governmental type accounting. The incumbent performs a variety of professional accounting services that requires the application of well-established accounting principles, theories, concepts and practices. They will train and provide informational and administrative support.
Duties- Technical accounting and problem resolution
- Accounting transaction classification
- Verification of the accuracy and completeness of accounting data
- Document accuracy and authorization analysis
- Research, interpret and verify which appropriation and general ledger account a document and subsequent accounting transactions will affect
- Resolve assigned technical problems
- Prepare reports and analysis of accounting data
- Determine the general ledger accounts, journals and subsidiary accounts affected and the debit and credit entries to be made
- Maintain, audit and reconcile the general and subsidiary ledger accounts
- Identify, consolidate, check and organize financial data
- Establish routines for the input of transactions
- Determine the nature of errors and make adjustments in the appropriate interrelated accounts
- Reconcile accounting systems output with input for accuracy
- Provide training and technical accounting assistance to customers
- Monitor activity in Suspense ensuring accuracy, costing and appropriateness of data transmitted to General Ledger and correct discrepancies
- Utilize MS Word or comparable work processing software to execute several office automation functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files
- Utilize MS Excel or other comparable spreadsheet software to develop and change spreadsheets in order to graphically display data
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m.
