Whitley Penn, a leading CPA and consulting firm, is looking for a Senior Tax Associate to join our San Antonio team. The Senior Tax Associate is responsible for leading tax engagements, preparing and reviewing a variety of tax documents, and recommending tax strategies by researching and interpreting tax laws. Responsibilities also include planning and executing engagements and special assignments, supervising and training associates, reviewing the work of associates, and communicating with clients.
The role demands compliance with all professional and regulatory standards.

HowWill You Make an Impact?
- Lead tax engagements, including planning and executing tax engagements, managing client deadline expectations, completing returns, and managing budgets.
- Review quarterly estimates, extensions, returns, and year‑end projections.
- Develop and maintain a client relationship and proactively work with client management to gather necessary tax information, identify issues, and make recommendations for business improvements.
- Research and consult on various tax issues.
- Respond to IRS and state tax authority inquiries.
- Supervise, train, and mentor Tax Staff and interns, including reviewing staff‑prepared work papers and evaluating performance.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the tax process and the Internal Revenue Code.
- Assist with business proposals, networking, and recruiting opportunities.
- Be highly dedicated with a positive attitude, self‑motivated, a team player who takes initiative and is willing to learn.
- 2+ years of public accounting experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting;
Master’s degree is preferred. - CPA or CPA candidate.
- Strong leadership, management, networking, and mentoring skills.
- Excellent written, oral communication, and presentation skills.
