Accounting Specialist – San Antonio
Disability Services of the Southwest / Lifespan Home Health
Position Summary:
The Accounting Specialist ensures accurate accounting records and performs a variety of clerical and entry‑level accounting tasks. The role offers Monday – Friday hours, full‑time or part‑time flexibility, and compensation of $20 per hour.
- Mail out accounts payable checks to vendors on a weekly basis.
- Deposit checks daily.
- Maintain and distribute Detail Cash Reports daily.
- Reconcile cash accounts on a monthly basis.
- Perform accounts payable functions, including receiving and matching invoices, account coding, preparation of disbursements, and related record keeping.
- Code invoices with account numbers according to ledger distribution; determine dates for payment; key‑punch invoices into a computerized AP system; maintain an alphabetical open invoice file for unpaid invoices.
- Review invoices scheduled for payment and special check requests with the Controller, print approved checks, and prepare and route for signature based on check‑signing authority.
- Maintain accounting files and locate information as needed.
- Observe confidentiality policies at all times.
- Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time‑management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Good math skills.
- Effective interpersonal and active listening skills, including asking clarifying questions.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Willingness to work with health‑care professionals, clients, families, and the general public.
- Written and verbal communication skills are required to meet audience needs.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and comprehending English; ability to communicate efficiently in English.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum six (6) months of clerical experience.
- Competence with computer applications such as MS Word and Excel; ability to learn agency‑specific software.
- Proficiency in database and spreadsheet software strongly desired.
- Typing speed of 35 words per minute and 10‑key adding machine proficiency.
- Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods.
- Reaching with hands or arms in any direction.
- Finger dexterity to manipulate objects, e.g., using a keyboard.
- Communication skills using the spoken word.
- Normal vision and hearing within normal parameters.
- Ability to move about.
