Junior Staff Accountant – Accounts Payable

Come work at Natural Bridge Caverns where adventure is our middle name. We are seeking an Accounts Payable associate to join our accounting team. This role will grow beyond accounts payable and will be an essential part of our accounting team.

Base pay range: $42,000.00 / yr – $45,000.00 / yr

Responsibilities
  • Perform the processing and recording of accounts payable transactions and ensure all invoices and staff reimbursements are paid accurately and timely in accordance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Prepare payments by accruing expenses; assigning account numbers; requesting disbursements; reconciling accounts.
  • Execute clerical duties such as scanning, spreadsheet creation and data entry, emailing, copying, and filing.
  • Assist the accounting team with day-to-day, monthly, and year-end operations of the Accounting/Finance Department, including maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledgers.
  • Assist in preparation and analysis of budgets and perform general bookkeeping.
  • Assist with preparation of internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments.
  • Maintain and balance automated financial information by inputting and verifying data in a timely manner.
  • Assist in performing general analysis of information and options by developing spreadsheet reports; reconciling and verifying information.
  • Assist in preparing general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts; completing monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed asset depreciation, and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries as necessary.
  • Review, process, and reconcile credit card expenses.
  • Assist in preparation and analysis of budget/forecast to actual variance reports per program and department.
  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Answer guests’ questions in a knowledgeable and professional manner consistent with Management’s directives.
  • Provide accounting support for future endeavors by reviewing financial information: entering data in the general ledger system and obtaining supplementary information for preparing financial statements.
  • Protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain integrity and accuracy in financial transactions and reports.
  • Maintain security, confidentiality, and backup of financial records.
  • Adhere to document retention policy and maintain a proper document control system for recording and tracking all documents.
  • Maintain document inventory in storage and assist in records destruction and proper archiving.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned and complete additional projects as needed.
Secondary Job Functions
  • Assist with inventory.
Qualifications
  • 6 months or more years of experience with accounts payable, accounting, or finance, preferably in the tourism/hospitality industry or another related field. A degree may substitute for experience.
  • Knowledge of GAAP standards and requirements.
  • Excellent communication, written, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to make quick, rational decisions that impact the organization.
  • Experience with Quick Books and Microsoft Excel is helpful.
  • Vendor and customer reconciliations experience is helpful.
  • Strict attention to detail; highly organized and efficient.
