Overview
Supports the Head Football Coach in coordinating and managing all aspects of the intercollegiate football program, including training, player development, and daily operations. Also assists in the supervision of graduate assistants, student assistants, managers, and student‑athletes.
Responsibilities- Ensures full compliance with all NCAA, Lone Star Conference (LSC), Angelo State University, and Texas Tech University System policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Supports daily football operations, including practice planning, skill instruction, player development, recruiting prospective student‑athletes, providing academic support to promote retention, evaluating player performance, and helping promote the football program.
- Assists with home game and event operations, team travel logistics, and community engagement or service activities involving football student‑athletes.
- Serves as a positive ambassador for Angelo State University and the football program, consistently demonstrating the university’s core values within the campus community, local area, state, and beyond.
- Supports departmental fundraising efforts as assigned by the Director of Athletics or designated university administrators.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of football techniques, strategies, rules, and conditioning principles.
- Ability to plan and conduct practice drills, training sessions, and skill‑development activities.
- Ability to motivate, mentor, and positively engage student‑athletes.
- Ability to effectively recruit and promote Angelo State University to prospective student‑athletes.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited university or college is required.
- Football coaching experience or collegiate/professional playing experience required.
- Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited university or college is preferred.
- Intercollegiate football coaching experience preferred.
The position requires prolonged periods of standing with intermittent sitting, walking, reaching, bending and grasping. Manual dexterity is also necessary. Incumbent works both in and outdoors, and has periodic exposure to dust, pollen, heat, cold, and inclement weather.
