POSITION TITLE:

Preventative Maintenance

EXEMPTION STATUS:
Non-exempt

REPORTS TO:

Preventative Maintenance Crew Foreman

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months

Primary Purpose

Preventative Maintenance are responsible for ensuring that equipment and machinery stay in good working order. They commonly work with industrial or commercial equipment, but may also be called upon to maintain vehicles, building systems, or other types of equipment. Complete scheduled preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, plumbing systems and electrical systems as directed by the preventative maintenance crew foreman.

Qualifications Education/Certification
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of operating principles of motors
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
Experience
  • Three years’ experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience; clear driving record
Major Responsibilities Maintenance and Repair
  • Inspect and make minor repairs to roofs.
  • Clean, inspect and complete minor repairs to HVAC systems.
  • Inspect and repair plumbing fixtures, hot water heaters and install when needed.
  • Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Install and repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, circuit-breaker panels, and other devices.
  • Install and connect power supply wiring cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments and equipment.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
  • Work irregular hours and respond to emergency calls as needed.
Records and Inventory
  • Maintain accurate records on materials used, labor, and production.
  • Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
Safety
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in professional learning, training programs, staff meetings, and special events as assigned.
Communication
  • Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
  • Articulate the district’s mission and goals to the community and solicit community support.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
  • Tools/Equipment Used:
    Power equipment and tools, paint equipment and tools, welding equipment and tools, trencher, air compressor, hand tools, ladder, scaffolding, district vehicle
  • Posture:
    Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and tight and enclosed spaces
  • Motion:
    Frequent walking; repetitive hand motions, wrist flexion/extension, grasping/squeezing, overhead reaching
  • Lifting:
    Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
  • Environment:
    Work outside and inside; on slippery or uneven surfaces; on ladders and scaffolding; around machinery and moving parts; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, fumes, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration; frequent district wide travel; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours
  • Mental Demands:
    Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions
