Position: EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

Perform work involving the operation of specialized equipment used in construction and repair, ditching, and maintenance. Drive and operate heavy equipment such as excavators, boring machines, wheel-type ditching machines, graders, front-end loaders, and backhoes. Experience with burying drops is preferred. May operate smaller and less complex equipment as necessary. Tasks include clearing and digging drainage ditches, digging and back filling trenches. Must have some knowledge of operation characteristics and maintenance of machines and equipment, as well as the methods, techniques, and procedures of construction and repair work involving heavy equipment.

Candidates must be able to perform strenuous labor for extended periods, work in extreme weather conditions, withstand constant vibration from equipment, climb in and out of trenches, lift up to 50 lbs, and understand oral and written instructions. This is a safety-sensitive position. Travel, overtime, and some weekends may be required. Transportation to out-of-town job sites will be provided. Experience with reading blueprints is required.

Candidates must pass a background check and submit to a substance screening test. Proficiency in operating directional bore rigs, backhoes, excavators, and trenchers is essential. Applicants may be asked to demonstrate their skills in operating construction equipment in realistic situations. CDL certification is a plus.

Job Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a construction crew, being punctual, minimizing personal time-off and phone use, and carrying out assigned duties effectively.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures, including company, city, state, and OSHA regulations, to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Be cross-trained to perform all functions needed to build or repair municipal water and sewer lines.
  • Operate backhoes, large excavators, trenchers, and hand tools during projects.
  • Overtime and travel may be required.
