The Financial Aid Advisor I assists students and families in understanding and accessing financial aid resources, including federal, state, and institutional programs. This position provides front-line advising, processes student applications, performs file verification, and supports the accurate packaging and awarding of financial aid. The Advisor I is an entry-level position requiring strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to student success and retention.

Job Duties
- Provide one-on-one counseling to current and prospective students regarding financial aid options, application procedures, eligibility requirements, and deadlines.
- Respond promptly to student inquiries via phone, email, and in-person interactions.
- Assist students and parents with completing the FAFSA and other required financial aid documents.
- Communicate award decisions and explain financial aid policies, terms, and conditions to students.
- Review financial aid applications for completeness and accuracy; collect and verify income and household documentation as required by federal verification regulations.
- Evaluate student eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid programs and assist in the packaging and awarding of financial aid.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in the university’s financial aid management system.
- Work collaboratively with Admissions, Student Accounts, Registrar, and other campus offices to support student enrollment and retention.
- Participate in outreach events, presentations, and workshops for financial aid education (some travel required).
- Stay current with federal Title IV regulations, state aid rules, and university policies.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
- Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Customer-service oriented and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA and federal financial aid regulations.
- Proficiency with computers, office software, and the ability to learn financial aid systems.
- Ability to meet deadlines and maintain high level of accuracy, professionalism, and customer service.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and related financial aid experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience working in higher education, financial aid, student services, or related fields.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.
