Job Summary

The Bus Driver transports students over scheduled routes and to/from special excursions; ensures the vehicle of operation is in safe; and ensures the safety of students during transport, loading, and unloading from buses.

Promotional opportunity to a contract, benefits‑eligible position upon successful completion of initial onwe training.

Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • Fingerprinting and successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • ​មHigh school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Utah Driver's License and evidence of insurability.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Hold or obtain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) within 60 days of hire. The district will provide all essential training needed to obtain a CDL.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to pass the Physical Assessment Standards for Utah School Bus Drivers.
  • Hold or obtain CPR &First Aid Certificate within six months of hire.
  • Speak, read, write, and comprehend written and verbal communication in English.
  • Adaptability and understanding of cultural differences while coping with stressful situations and maintaining confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with children with special needs.
  • CDL endorsements (including passenger, air brakes, and school bus).
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Drive the school bus and other vehicles to transport passengers over scheduled routes, school trips,utility approved.
  • Assist students and other passengers—including those in wheelchairs or with special needs—to safe loading and unloading, including emergencies.
  • Advise students and passengers on appropriate behavior and safety rules.

  • Support other personnel as required, including emergency situations, and assist in administering first aid if certified.
  • Assess incidents, complaints, accidents, and potential emergencies; recommend resolution.
  • Prepare documents and reports: field trip reports, employee timecards, incident reports, inspection records, passenger counts, mileage logs, and other required reports.
  • Report observations and incidents involving students to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections.
  • Maintain vehicle fluids; perform emergency evacuation drills per state standards.
  • Respond to inquiries and participate in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars.
  • Adapt to changing work priorities, collaborate with team members, maintain regular attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

The job requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling up to 50 pounds, and some climbing and balancing. It involves 90% sitting reste walk, 10% standing. Conditions vary in atmospheric.
