Courier I – ARUP Laboratories
Schedule
:
Tuesday – Friday 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM (40 hrs/week);
Saturday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (30 min break). Training

Primary Purpose
:
Works under close supervision to learn the policies and processes in Transportation. Learns to receive, transport, and deliver all lab specimens, reports, supplies, and personnel in a timely and professional manner, performing routine on‑road or in‑house routes, short point‑to‑point deliveries, and STAT pickups as required.
Essential Functions
:
- Primarily responsible for in‑house pickups and deliveries (inside ARUP campus), limited on‑road routine route, or short point‑to‑point deliveries and STAT pickups.
- Transport specimens, reports, and supplies per electronic route sheet or as requested, ensuring accurate handling for all shipments.
- Complete all routed stops within 10 minutes of the target time recorded on the GML tablet.
- Log STAT pickups on ARUP STAT tracking slips according to proper procedure.
- Learn all aspects of assigned route and become familiar with equipment and delivery procedures.
- Complete all paperwork and log all entries as assigned.
- Maintain and report any vehicle, tablet, or equipment problems to the dispatcher and local supervisor promptly.
- Manifest all specimens picked up at local clients or received in shipping containers from out‑of‑town clients.
- Assist in cleaning and organizing box inventory and supplies on the dock when not performing other duties.
- Clean out specimen courier totes at the end of each shift; ensure no specimens remain in totes or vehicle.
- Obtain permission from the Transportation Coordinator or local supervisor before breaks or lunch.
- Provide coverage as directed by transportation leadership.
- Meet the performance standards for the Courier/Transportation department.
- Provide excellent customer service and represent ARUP positively.
- Coordinate any routing concerns with client pickups to department leadership.
- Attend the Transportation Department bi‑monthly staff meeting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical & Other Requirements
:
- Stooping: bending downward and forward at the waist.
- Reaching: extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Mobility: occasional movement between sites and indoor locations.
- Communicate: frequent communication with others.
- PPE: use of personal protective equipment in compliance with CDC, OSHA, and company policies.
- ARUP Policies & Procedures: adherence to all ARUP policies.
- Medium Work: can exert up to 50 lb, 30 lb, or 10 lb forces as required.
- Fine Motor Control: picking, pinching, typing, or similar tasks using fingers.
- Age:
Must be 21 years old. - Valid Utah Driver’s License: no moving violations within the previous two years; no alcohol/drug‑related violations with the Driver’s License Division.
- Ability to pass a physical examination for a Department of Transportation Medical Card.
Qualifications
- Education
:
High School Diploma or Equivalent (or higher). - Experience (Preferred):
Experience with computer‑based applications; good working knowledge of the Salt Lake Valley area. - Licenses & Certifications (Required):
Valid Driver License.
