A Communications Technician 2 is responsible for the installation and assisting with planning & layout of communications cabling and equipment in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. The role involves hands-on work with basic equipment using hand tools and power tools, a basic understanding of telecom systems, blueprints, and knowledge of codes and standards. Each technician should strive to become a qualified BICSI Technician.
This is a full-time position with company benefits.
- Knowledge and safe use of hand tools and various power tools
- Wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Following Safety Policies and Procedures
- Actively participating in daily safety and work briefings
- Installation of various types of low voltage cable
- Installation, inspection, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting of ISP/OSP telecommunications systems (Fiber Optics, Cat 5, 6, 6A and related equipment such as pathways, cable trays, cabinets/racks, telecommunications devices, prefabricated components and assemblies, telecommunications grounding systems)
- Survey and document existing telecommunications infrastructure (copper and fiber cables, active and passive components)
- Sketch rack elevations, floor elevations, and wall elevations
- Train and supervise apprentices in a team environment to install cable from Telecommunication Rooms to work area outlets following drawings and run lists
- Perform quality assurance checks of team’s work to ensure compliance with applicable requirements
- Maintain a clean work area and participate in job site clean up
- Secure company tools and materials daily
- Up to 25% travel, may include domestic and/or international
- 4+ years of experience in commercial communications industry
- Be 18 years of age
- High School diploma or GED required
- Excellent safety record, valid driver's license, and clean driving record to meet corporate eligibility for company vehicle
- Reliable transportation to and from the jobsite
- Ability to pass basic telecommunication knowledge test
- Ability to read and understand plans and specifications
- Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills to meet deadlines and quality objectives
- Punctual and team-oriented work habits; maintain a safe work environment
- Wear long pants and a shirt that covers the shoulders (not provided by the Company)
- Provide basic tools from provided tool list prior to first day of employment

- Lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis; demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform tasks such as loading/unloading, operating equipment, and transporting materials
- Relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance
- Work at various heights up to 60 feet; climb and balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and ladders
- Walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and reach overhead regularly
- Good vision (may be corrected), color vision, and ability to hear and communicate in English
- Use standard ladder safely with tools
- Identify problems and recognize when something is wrong
- Apply general rules to specific problems to produce sensible conclusions
- See details at close range and listen to information presented verbally
- BICSI credentials to include Technician
- Manufacture certifications and/or Fiber certification
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications
