Field Service Mechanic
Join Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction as a Field Service Mechanic. Starting pay ranges from $30 to $50 per hour depending on experience.
Required skills: CDL Class A or
B. Extensive experience with heavy construction equipment and diesel repair, including cranes, boom lifts, forklifts, excavators, loaders, and concrete paving machines.
- Diagnose and repair or rebuild all equipment and vehicles as directed by the Shop Manager.
- Perform routine maintenance and scheduled repairs on equipment and vehicles.
- Operate construction equipment and vehicles to conduct repairs.
- Carry out miscellaneous welding for non-certified works.
- Maintain zero repeat/redo repairs.
- Clean equipment during repairs and maintain daily logs accurately.
- Drive lube truck to fuel and service equipment and company pickup truck for parts procurement.
- Meet daily, weekly, and monthly safety inspection goals in the shop and in the field.
- Help keep the shop organized and tidy; assist with small tool and equipment maintenance.
- Seek knowledge of new maintenance technologies and methods.
- Recommend safety, production, and quality improvement measures to the Shop Manager.
- Abide by company policies, safety rules, and support the company’s mission and values.
- Perform additional duties as assigned with adequate guidance and resources.
- High school diploma or equivalent; up to two years of related training or experience acceptable.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience on heavy construction equipment and vehicles.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience with diesel fuel systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience performing field repairs for cranes, forklifts, and boom lifts.
- Physically capable of lifting 50‑100 lbs and performing tasks such as standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling for extended periods.
- Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Valid driver’s license required;
Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
