Mobile Diesel Technician Level II

The Mobile Diesel Technician II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The technician can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, and continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.

A successful Diesel Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.

DUTIES
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Make minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, differentiates, and more.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, air conditioning, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentiates.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and customers to assess their needs and provide assistance or resolve issues.
  • Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage time allocations effectively.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work on Repair Orders (“RO”) using the company‑issued iOS device and the TRAIT application, uploading pictures, parts used, and all findings.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and meet or exceed Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
  • Communicate with management and support via email or phone to obtain approvals on estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Maintain the company‑issued service truck, conducting daily safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field. Alternate qualifications may include a degree/certification beyond HS and 5 years of experience.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools needed for job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
