Job SummaryContel Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Level 1 Central Office Installation Technician to join our network infrastructure team. This entry-level position is responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, and testing of telecommunications equipment in central office environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, basic technical aptitude, and a willingness to learn industry standards and practices.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the installation of telecommunications equipment including routers, switches, servers, power systems, and fiber/copper cabling.
- Follow engineering drawings, installation standards, and job specifications.
- Perform basic cable routing, labeling, and termination tasks.
- Use hand tools and basic test equipment to verify installation integrity.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Document installation activities and update records as required.
- Comply with safety regulations and company policies.
- Support senior technicians and learn advanced installation techniques.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications a plus.
- Basic understanding of electrical and telecommunications systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
- Comfortable working in physically demanding environments (e.g., lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including nights and weekends if required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Familiarity with central office environments and telecom equipment.
- Basic knowledge of DC power systems and grounding.
- Experience with cable management and labeling standards.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification is a plus.
