Job Summary

Contel Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Level 1 Central Office Installation Technician to join our network infrastructure team. This entry-level position is responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, and testing of telecommunications equipment in central office environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, basic technical aptitude, and a willingness to learn industry standards and practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the installation of telecommunications equipment including routers, switches, servers, power systems, and fiber/copper cabling.
  • Follow engineering drawings, installation standards, and job specifications.
  • Perform basic cable routing, labeling, and termination tasks.
  • Use hand tools and basic test equipment to verify installation integrity.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Document installation activities and update records as required.
  • Comply with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Support senior technicians and learn advanced installation techniques.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications a plus.
  • Basic understanding of electrical and telecommunications systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
  • Comfortable working in physically demanding environments (e.g., lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including nights and weekends if required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with central office environments and telecom equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of DC power systems and grounding.
  • Experience with cable management and labeling standards.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification is a plus.
