Position Details

Red Butte Garden’s Retail team extends the garden’s mission by creating a welcoming and enjoyable shopping experience. This active, public-facing position combines frequent guest interaction with hands-on operational tasks throughout the day. Retail Representatives assist guests in the gift shop, manage merchandising and displays, and support smooth daily store operations in a dynamic environment that involves standing, lifting, and moving throughout the store, while adapting to changing guest needs.

Responsibilities
  • Welcome guests and provide guidance on products with friendliness and attentiveness.
  • Sell merchandise accurately while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Maintain an organized, visually appealing store—restocking, tidying, cleaning, and arranging displays.
  • Process new merchandise, including pricing and display setup.
  • Ensure daily store operations run smoothly while maintaining an inviting shopping environment.
  • Assist guests with core guest services tasks, including selling memberships and answering general questions.
Cross-Training

Employees on the Retail team receive training in the core tasks of the Guest Services team, ensuring seamless, positive guest experiences. At times, employees may be asked to temporarily work in the other area during peak times or unexpected situations; in these cases, they only perform the tasks for which they have been trained. Employees may also be considered for full cross-training, which qualifies them for regular shifts on the Guest Services team.

Full cross-training is optional, manager-initiated, and dependent on operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. One year full-time customer service experience or equivalency, demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and self-directed.
  • Enjoys organizing, maintaining, and enhancing a visually appealing store.
  • Friendly, approachable, and motivated to provide excellent guest service.
  • Comfortable balancing operational tasks with guest interactions independently.
