Position Summary:
The Food Service Director is responsible for the planning, direction, monitoring, coordination, control, and evaluation of menu development and food preparation for the facility. This individual must communicate effectively in written and oral forms. The Director assists all Food service Staff in evaluating operational performance, quality of service, and competitiveness with other communities. Strong leadership, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with energy, enthusiasm, and decisiveness to consider the impact of decisions on the organization.
Essential Functions include:
- Demonstrating positive interpersonal relations with employees, residents, families, visitors, and coworkers in a professional and confidential manner.
- Participating in quality assurance and improvement activities focusing on resident satisfaction, employee satisfaction, process refinement, and financial impact.
- Embracing the facility’s core values such as compassion, respect, teamwork, and integrity.
- Communicating with the Administrator regarding food service issues and major menu changes, documenting changes appropriately.
- Ensuring accurate and effective communication for resident nutrition and overseeing food service performance.
- Maintaining standards for safe food handling, applying problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, and fostering a team culture.
Duties include:
- Preparing nutritious and well-presented meals according to menus, recipes, and dietary needs.
- Maintaining sanitation standards, monitoring portion control, inventory, and storage.
- Ensuring compliance with safety policies, assisting during inspections, and managing the kitchen environment.
Position specifications:
Qualifications include a high school diploma, health verification, no felony convictions, CPR and first aid certification, background check, TB test, Food Handler’s Permit, and at least two years of food service experience preferred. Skills required include leadership, effective communication, organizational ability, knowledge of food safety, and budgeting skills. Preferred qualifications include well-rounded outside interests.
Work environment involves physical activity such as lifting, standing, and operating kitchen equipment, with occasional stress due to multiple responsibilities. The role is full-time, exempt, and may require overtime.
