The Young Lab at the Huntsman Cancer Institute is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist. We are a translational immunology laboratory that studies the immune response to cancer immunotherapies. We aim to engineer therapeutic strategies to improve the immune system’s ability to destroy cancer without causing immune-mediated toxicities (such as diabetes, colitis and thyroid disorders).
This is a collaborative research effort using unique preclinical mouse models and interrogating clinical samples to improve our mechanistic understanding of the autoimmune and anti-tumor immune responses initiated by cancer immunotherapies. We also use several cellular and molecular techniques to identify changes to the immune response that correlate with disease outcomes including high-throughput sequencing (single cell RNA and TCR sequencing), cytometry (spectral and flow) and histology.
This position is ideal for a dedicated individual with strong communication skills who has a desire to gain extensive research experience as a member of a dynamic team, including the opportunity to develop their own independent research. The Young lab also has a strong track record of providing mentorship for individuals who have an interest in transitioning to graduate and medical school.
The Research Scientist will work alongside Dr. Young, and other lab members, and will play a pivotal role in supporting the scientific and organizational needs of the lab.
