Part-Time Parks Maintenance Technician at the SLC Cemetery
Working for the Salt Lake City Cemetery offers a unique opportunity to be part of one of the most historic and significant cemeteries in the region. Located in Utah's capital city, the cemetery spans over 120 acres, making it the largest municipal cemetery in the country. This site is a historic landmark with ongoing significance in Salt Lake City and the State of Utah.
This position will be heavily involved in irrigation maintenance and groundskeeping of the entire Cemetery.
Typical Duties- Performs a variety of duties required to maintain City-owned grounds, parks, trails, cemeteries, open spaces, and recreation facilities, including mowing, aerating, and weeding turf; cleaning restrooms; picking up trash; raking leaves; clearing sidewalks; and removing debris. Assists with park-related projects such as laying sod, reseeding, and planting of flowers and trees and inspecting and adjusting sprinkler systems.
- Operates various types of handheld and light mechanical equipment including mowers, sweepers, blowers, and other grounds maintenance equipment. May operate heavy landscaping equipment (not requiring a Commercial Driver's License).
- Operates various types of vehicles, equipment and irrigation systems necessary to successfully complete assigned tasks. Responsible for the preventive maintenance, minor repairs and adjustment of equipment to ensure the proper operation and safe, efficient use.
- Assist in the proper mixing and application of fertilizers, herbicides and other chemicals used in the care and maintenance of turf and landscaped areas.
- Assist in the preparation of ball fields, parks and picnic areas when areas are specifically reserved by the public. Inspects and cleans areas where unauthorized camping has occurred to make presentable for all to use. May work with County Health Department and other City staff to clear areas occupied by persons experiencing homelessness.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Ability to get to various Parks and Public Lands facilities. May require personal and city vehicle with a valid driver's license or driving privilege card.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Experience in maintenance and landscaping.
- Experience working for a city municipal park.
- Experience operating light or heavy-duty equipment.
- Moderately heavy physical activity required to push, pull or lift medium weights up to 50 lbs and on occasion up to 80 lbs. Required to stand, walk or sit uncomfortably for extended periods. Exposure to weather extremes, noise, dust, fumes, etc. are routine.
- Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.
