Animal Care Technician

Overview

Animal Care Technicians Provides care for laboratory animals and their environment through animal husbandry and keeps records according to State, Federal and University regulations. This is an entry-level position.

• Provides clean caging, bedding, food, and water to animals.
• Sanitizes animal cages and equipment; operates washroom machinery and autoclaves.
• Cleans animal facility floors and surfaces; removes trash and other wastes.
• Reports animal health issues and environmental deviations to supervisory staff.
• Completes facility records documenting husbandry, environment, and inventory.
• Maintains workstation supply levels.

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

The department may hire at one of the following job levels based on business need and budget:

• Animal Care Technician, I:
  Requires little to no related experience.
• Animal Care Technician, II
  :
  Requires at least 1 year of related experience.
• Animal Care Technician, III
  :
  Requires 3+ years of related experience.
