• As a Pet Stylist at Petco, provide professional grooming services to pets, ensuring high-quality care and customer satisfaction.
• Perform professional grooming tasks including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning according to pet parent instructions and breed standards.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers) and ensure equipment is clean and safe.
• Prioritize animal safety and well-being, monitor pets for discomfort or illness, and report concerns to pet owners and store management.
• Evaluate each pet’s needs based on coat type, skin conditions, and temperament; provide grooming recommendations and care guidance to pet parents.
• Maintain a clean and safe grooming area, sanitize tools, and follow Petco hygiene and sanitation policies.
• Communicate professionally with pet parents, address questions, and provide timely resolutions and home-care product recommendations.
• Support the grooming team, including training and guiding entry-level trainees as needed.

• Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or previous experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
• High-school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
• Independent judgment and problem-solving skills with guidance from leadership as needed.
• Strong attention to detail and a genuine passion for animals and grooming careers.
• Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, health considerations, and behavior; proficiency in breed-specific cuts and styling.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to handle pets of various sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.

The majority of duties are indoors in the grooming salon. The role may involve bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. Some tasks may require heights or cleaning equipment. The work environment can be noisy and wet, with significant direct interaction with pet parents and pets.
