Veterinary Technician
Position
Purpose:
The Veterinarian Technician provides excellent veterinary care to patients at the Vetco Total Care full-service hospital and delivers exceptional customer care to owners. The Technician represents the company’s mission and values and fosters teamwork and motivation within the hospital.
- Greet clients and patients, obtain weight and vital signs, record history and vital signs in the electronic medical record.
- Assist veterinarian with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry and euthanasia, taking direct supervision from the veterinarian.
- Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications and maintain the electronic medical record.
- Schedule appointments, communicate with and educate clients, relay test results, manage inventory and accounts receivable.
- Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, support induction and monitoring of anesthetized patients, monitor during recovery and prepare for discharge.
- Provide in‑hospital treatments for sick patients, administer injectable and oral medications, intravenous therapies and support patient elimination.
- Participate in training of new staff members and disseminate knowledge as required.
- Keep hospital environment neat and clean; perform regular cleaning based on a maintenance schedule.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed.
- Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state where the hospital is located.
- Minimum 1 year of previous experience as a Veterinary Technician in a veterinary practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Compassionate, professional demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
- Telephone and computer skills.
- Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas and accept change.
The majority of duties are performed in the Vetco Total Care full-service hospital. The position requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds and standing for long periods of time. A large amount of time is spent in direct contact with clients and their pets.
