Job Summary
This position provides primary care and treatment to a group of patients in a clinic or hospital unit. The position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law.
Responsibilities- Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories.
- Forms the medical plan and prognosis based on the patient's condition.
- Consults with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
- Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.
- Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
- Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care; initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.
- Participates in quality improvement activities.
- Counsels patients, families and significant others about health and illness, and promotes health maintenance.
- Evaluates, plans, implements, and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
- Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area.
- Demonstrated leadership, teaching, research and communication skills.
- Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
- Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
- Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
- Utah State prescriptive privileges.
- Licensure obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
- UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
- Immunization according to CDC standards and hospital policy; limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

The Division of General Internal Medicine of the University of Utah's School of Medicine is looking for motivated candidates interested in academic medicine to enter the Advance Practice Clinician Hospitalist Fellowship program. The program is designed to accommodate two fellows every 12 months, providing comprehensive training in inpatient medicine and strengthening knowledge while developing an analytical approach to diagnosing and caring for hospitalized adult patients.
Fellows will rotate with the infectious disease, cardiology, and intensive care units and receive essential procedural and echocardiography training. The goal is to build confident providers with effective communication skills, capable of advancing to full responsibility and autonomy in patient care.
Applicants must provide supporting evidence of successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program, certification and licensure to practice and prescribe (with active DEA license). Entrance will be based on CV, three letters of recommendation, a personal interview, and criminal background check.
