Job Summary
The Division of Medical Genetics with the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Clinical Nurse. Responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to patients by utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, implement clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms, and develop and implement patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.
May be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
* Provide specialized nursing care for patients with inborn errors of metabolism and genetic conditions across the lifespan.
* Support chronic disease management, including medication administration, infusion coordination, and monitoring for treatment side effects.
* Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences, team meetings, and shared decision-making.
* Performs phone management with patients' parents, chart review, care coordination, triage, and problem management.
* Communicates lab & other test results to families.
* Assists with medication refills.
* Places orders for labs and imaging for the provider including tracking results for some specialized medications.
* Assists providers and staff with patient-related paperwork such as letters of medical necessity.
* Communicates directly with pharmaceutical companies' patient care programs in support of enzyme replacement therapies.
* Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
* Provides guidance and direction to members of the health care team to ensure quality patient care.
* Provides and oversees direct patient care in accordance with established nursing protocol and physicians' orders.

* Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
