The opportunity

This position is responsible for leading the team and its activities supporting production equipment, calibration/metrology and utilities maintenance. This includes troubleshooting complex systems, resolving issues, identifying root causes of repeat issues, and identifying opportunities to increase equipment uptime, efficiency and throughput. The role ensures technicians have the tools, resources and training needed to support plant operations in compliance with all regulatory requirements, company policies and site procedures.

  • Responsible and accountable for the daily management and development of direct reports.
  • Oversee scheduled and unscheduled equipment maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Manage and report site metrics related to equipment and utilities.
  • Provide technical expertise and hands-on machine intervention and project support as needed.
  • Evaluate work in progress and resolve production, quality, equipment and other issues by collaborating with appropriate departments and making real-time decisions in response to unexpected events.
  • Write, review and/or approve Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions required to operate in the relevant area.
  • Lead and assist investigations into anomalies and results that do not meet expectations.
  • Develop equipment service and project timelines based on input from end users and suppliers; manage work and projects to meet schedules.
  • Solicit and evaluate proposals from equipment vendors for parts and service.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders/departments to maintain an equipment reliability program.
  • Investigate equipment performance and determine solutions.
  • Support the qualification of new and modified equipment.
  • Troubleshoot machine controls, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Complete training requirements and maintain compliance with all assignments.
  • Maintain work areas and perform job functions in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company policies and cGMPs and SOPs.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Your Experience And Qualifications

Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that fulfills the requirements of the position will be considered.

Education/Certification/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant progressive experience in mechanical maintenance and/or applied engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory/management experience.
  • Experience with and understanding of equipment controls, troubleshooting of machine systems and installation and ongoing support of production equipment.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment within pharmaceutical, medical device or nutraceutical industries is preferred.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
  • Ability to interact positively, collaborate with subordinates, co-workers and management to motivate, influence, and lead others with or without direct supervisor authority.
  • Computer proficiency with working knowledge of MS Office and systems such as EAM, SAP, Oracle, Track Wise and other relational databases.
  • Detail oriented with ability to analyze information, create metrics and articulate the link to business needs/objectives.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
