PROJECT MANAGER / HEAVY CIVIL / PUBLIC WORKS – Confidential Search

We are conducting a confidential search on behalf of a financially strong, rapidly growing heavy civil contractor with a proven track record delivering UDOT and municipal public works projects across the Wasatch Front. This organization is profitable, well-capitalized, and scaling quickly, with a deep backlog and long-term growth strategy.

Known for its hands-on leadership, disciplined execution, and internal promotion, this contractor is seeking a Project Manager to help lead and deliver roadway and municipal infrastructure projects while growing into larger leadership responsibilities as the company continues to expand.

This role is ideal for a 4–5+ year PM who wants real responsibility, exposure to decision-makers, and a clear path for advancement—without excessive travel or burnout.

Role Overview

The Project Manager will be responsible for the planning, coordination, execution, and financial performance of heavy civil and municipal public works projects throughout Utah. This is a hybrid role, balancing office-based project controls with regular site presence to support field leadership and ensure project success.

Projects may include:

  • U DOT roadway and highway construction
  • Municipal public works projects
  • Underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drain)
  • Grading, earthwork, and site development
  • Concrete flatwork and structural elements
  • Curb, gutter, sidewalk, and roadway improvements
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage overall project scope, schedule, budget, and profitability
  • Coordinate with superintendents to support field execution and sequencing
  • Develop and manage project schedules, forecasts, and cost controls
  • Administer contracts, change orders, and subcontractor agreements
  • Serve as a primary point of contact with owners, inspectors, and municipalities
  • Support procurement, buyout, and vendor coordination
  • Monitor job cost reports and proactively manage risk
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
  • Partner with leadership to improve processes and support company growth
Required Qualifications
  • 4–5 years of experience as a Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager
  • Heavy civil construction experience with UDOT and/or municipal projects
  • Strong understanding of public works project delivery
  • Experience managing budgets, schedules, and subcontractors
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with field leadership
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
