Housekeeping Aid – U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
Location:
Environmental Management Services Division, VA Health Care Systems – Salt Lake City, UT.
$17.70/hr - $20.65/hr
SummaryThe position performs janitorial and custodial services such as sweeping, scrubbing, waxing floors; washing windows and walls; dusting, polishing furniture and fixtures; cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting all assigned work areas as needed. Work is regularly performed by hand and with light and heavy‑powered (industrial‑type) cleaning equipment such as scrubbers, buffers.
Qualifications- Specific length of training and experience not required, but must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of this position.
- Evidence must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume.
- Applicants are rated according to the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
- Screen‑out element evaluated first; those who meet the minimal required qualification are considered for further rating.
- Job elements evaluated include Dexterity, Safety, Follow Directions, Handle Weights and Loads, Reliability and Dependability, Special Aptitude – Housekeeping Work, Work Practices.
- Experience includes paid, unpaid and volunteer work (e.g., National Service programs, professional, philanthropic, community, student, social). Volunteer work can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
- All qualifying experience, including volunteer experience, is credited. A full year of work is 35–40 hours per week. Part‑time experience is credited based on actual time spent in appropriate activities.
- Applicants must indicate duties, responsibilities and number of hours per week for each position.
- Perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties and routine housekeeping duties.
- Clean wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms and other areas.
- Sweep, mop, scrub/machine floors; vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture; empty waste baskets; clean light globes and Venetian blinds; wash walls, windows, ceilings.
- Climb small ladders to refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers and move furniture.
- Carry out assignments with minimal supervision.
- Work schedule:
All shifts (1st – 2nd – 3rd). - Physical requirements:
continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, pushing; occasional use of heavy‑powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. - Requires considerable dexterity and hand‑foot‑eye coordination; concentration and visual acuity to see dirt, dust, debris.
