About the Position

The Custodian assists in ensuring positive customer service experiences by providing a clean, orderly and safe facility for the public and library staff.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Maintain building cleanliness. Empty and clean waste bins and trash containers. Clean, dust, wipe furniture, vacuum floors, sweep, mop. Clean and sanitize restroom facilities, refill restroom dispensers.
  • Maintain building safety. Pick up and properly dispose of debris off walkways. Secure building, check for any unlocked doors or windows, report unauthorized occupants. May assist with snow and ice removal.
  • Minor maintenance or repairs. Perform minor maintenance or repairs, such as replacing light bulbs; replacing batteries for sensor operated components, sinks, flushers, air fresheners, etc; makes minor repairs of restroom dispensers and dryers, makes minor repairs on assigned equipment; such as vacuums and scrubbers; unclogs toilets and drains. Reports larger maintenance requests and safety concerns.
  • Deep clean building. Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard floor surfaces. Shampoo carpets. Wash walls, windows and window coverings. Maintain assigned equipment, hand tools and work/storage area. Maintain all power equipment, power tools and other items. Maintain a tidy and orderly work storage space.
  • Working relationships. Fosters good working relationships with diverse people including staff, patrons, volunteers and vendors. Accepts assignments from supervisor, manager or other Library staff in a professional and timely manner.
  • May assist with facility setup. May assist with facility set-up and take down for meetings and special events.
  • May assist moving furniture. May assist with moving or rearranging furniture and displays.
  • May assist at other branch locations. May be asked to drive facility vehicles to the other branches and assist with special projects.
  • Other duties. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Six-months experience in building cleaning, or an equivalent combination of education, experience or training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must be available late evenings and weekends.
  • Valid Utah driver license and a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Spanish language and/or other non-English language skills.
Working Environment
  • Work is performed in an Urban library environment.
  • Subject to repetitive movement; standing, walking, bending, reaching and lifting of objects.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 25 lbs, and push/pull up to 100 lbs., climb ladders, stand/walk for extended periods, bend over, kneel, perform functions that may require being on the ground.
  • Must have good hand mobility and coordination.
  • Subject to intermittent periods of inclement weather when working outside.
Schedule
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week, Thursday - Monday 2:30pm - 11:30 pm
