Overview
The Facilities Supervisor, Custodial Floor Crew, Night Shift (10:00pm to 6:30am) under close supervision of the Facilities Custodial Manager, plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and appearance of all Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) campuses and facilities. This position applies advanced knowledge of floor care principles, practices, and procedures to ensure high standards of maintenance for hard floors, carpets, and specialty surfaces.
The role involves complex and non-routine tasks in various environments, requiring discretion in problem-solving and decision-making. The Supervisor will lead and influence team members, ensure compliance with SLCC and Facilities standards, and escalate issues when necessary.
This position is considered a supervisor level position but will also be expected to perform all duties of custodian positions as needed.
This position has a regular schedule but requires flexibility and must be available to work on call for snow removal and other building clean up emergencies, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Night Shift: 10:00 pm – 6:30 am
Starting salary: $47,639.36 or $22.90 per hour – $48,758.92 or $23.44 per hour
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Assist in recruiting, hiring, corrective actions, disciplinary, and termination processes.
- Complete and maintain all SLCC, Facilities, and floor maintenance training.
- Train employees on floor care techniques and safety procedures.
- Supervise and lead staff with clear instructions.
- Verify and approve payroll hours.
- Assign work orders in CMMS (Sprocket).
- Coordinate special floor care projects with the Facilities Custodial Manager.
- Implement and maintain preventative maintenance programs.
- Respond to emergency floor care situations (water damage, spills, etc.).
- Assist with event setup and other custodial duties as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of custodial and floor care practices, including stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet cleaning.
- Ability to operate and maintain floor care equipment (auto scrubbers, burnishers, extractors).
- Knowledge of OSHA and ISSA safety standards.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and train employees effectively.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Computer skills for data entry and work order management (MS Office, CMMS).
- Ability to lift 75 lbs. and perform physical tasks safely.
- Knowledge of SDS sheets and chemical safety.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
- Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
- Associate’s degree or two (2) years post high school additional continuing education through certification program.
- One (1) to four (4) years of related full-time experience.
Trade off 1:1 in experience/education requirement.
Part time experience may be considered on a prorated basis.
- Must have a valid Utah Driver License.
Experience supervising floor care teams.
Knowledge of advanced floor restoration and cleaning techniques.
