The Senior Cloud Engineer provides architectural direction and implementation for cloud-based infrastructure and networking solutions. They direct and support the engineering efforts for student and employee facing infrastructure technologies. They'll also mentor team members in strategic and tactical efforts. They are the in-house expert on design, automation, and scaling solutions in a cloud-based environment.

Western Governors University (WGU) is seeking a Senior Dev Ops / Cloud Engineer to design, implement, and support scalable, secure cloud infrastructure. This role partners closely with engineering teams to enable reliable systems, modern Dev Ops practices, and effective use of AWS (Amazon Web Services).

• Design and implement cloud infrastructure roadmaps.
• Monitor system performance, capacity, availability, and reliability.
• Automate cloud platforms and maintain monitoring and alerting systems.
• Design and maintain server, storage, network, and security infrastructure.
• Provide tools and infrastructure to support Dev Ops and development teams.
• Mentor Dev Ops and Cloud Engineers.
• Create and maintain infrastructure documentation, policies, and procedures.
• Deliver AWS-based solutions for ongoing initiatives.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

• Strong knowledge of AWS services including S3, EC2, RDS, SQS, IAM, and Route 53.
• Kubernetes and Terraform expertise.
• Scripting or programming experience in Bash, Python, Java, or Node.js.
• Experience with CI/CD, Git Flow, and tools such as Jenkins or Travis CI.
• Familiarity with serverless services (Lambda, Dynamo
  
  DB, Cloud Watch).
• Understanding of Dev Ops, Scrum, ITIL, and containerization or virtualization.
• Experience with monitoring tools (Cloud Watch, New Relic, Nagios, or similar).
• Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.

• Bachelor's degree in IT or a related field.
• 7+ years of related experience, including 3+ years with AWS.

Equivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements. Generally, equivalent relevant experience is defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education and is the discretion of the hiring manager.
