Job Summary
The IT Software Engineer for UIT's University Support Services provides a primary role in the development and support of research-oriented People Soft and connecting applications used by the University of Utah ks closely with dynamic team web and People Soft engineers, UI designers, and product managers with the goal of creating and maintaining innovative and feature-rich applications for research departments, researchers, and other campus users.

University Information Technology (UIT) is the central IT service provider for the University of Utah, reporting to the Chief Information Officer and responsible for many shared IT services including the wired and wireless network;
Campus Information Services (CIS) portal; UMail, telephone, and online collaboration; digital learning technologies; information security; software licensing; and a host of other IT systems and services.
Located in Salt Lake City, the U is the flagship institution of the State of Utah’s higher‑education system. It hosts arts and museum venues and is a member of the BIG‑12 Conference. Skiing and snowboarding are within short distance from campus, and activities from biking to hiking to fishing abound. - Support and maintain People Soft applications and related third‑party integrations and bolt‑ons (including Gideon Taylor) used for research administration.
- Work with App Designer, SQR development, Application Engines and App Packages.
- Manage research applications, including pre‑award and post‑award tracking of grant‑funded research proposals.
- Support award management by tracking changes to research awards and associated project financial data throughout the award lifecycle.
- Partner with the Office of the Vice President for Research to support research‑related processes and system needs.
- Develop or direct software system testing or validation procedures, programming, or documentation.
- Collaborate with business partners to ensure the University of Utah remains compliant with evolving federal, state, and agency regulations.
- Analyze user needs and develop software solutions, applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis.
- Aid in the creation of Gideon Taylor eForms used for research administration.
- Work with a small Scrum team to design systems and obtain information on project limitations, performance requirements, and interfaces.
- Work on projects from analysis through development, testing, QA, and delivery.
- Update software, enhance, troubleshoot, or modify existing software to correct errors, adapt it to new hardware, or upgrade interfaces and improve performance.
- Primary technologies include People Tools, Gideon Taylor framework, Integration Broker; may collaborate with team members from other domains.
- May maintain databases within an application area, coordinating database development as part of a team.
- Prepare reports or correspondence concerning project specifications, activities, or status.
- Analyze information to determine, recommend, and plan integration of a new system or modification of an existing system.
- Consult with customers or other departments on project status, proposals, or technical issues.
- Confer with data processing or project managers to obtain information on data processing project limits and capabilities.
- Supervise and assign work to programmers.
