Summary

The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) - Veterans Health Administration (VHA) - VA Rocky Mountain Network (VISN 19) - Salt Lake City VA Health Care System. This position serves as an advanced technician for outpatient care settings such as primary care, mental health, and specialty clinics. As an ICT Generalist the incumbent may serve in a medical center, community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC), mobile medical unit or may have virtual/remote assignments.

Specialized

Experience:

Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists - speech pathologists - medical officers - and optometrists. Therefore technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge - methods - and techniques of the position to be filled. GS‑06 grade level:
One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS‑05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge - skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position - and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled - in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Specialized experience includes:
Having knowledge of human anatomy. Possessing knowledge to recognize life threatening situations and acting to correct them. Assisting with patient exams and screening. Assisting licensed personnel in behavioral/psychiatric situations. Providing clerical administrative support coordination. Maintaining records/charts. Answering phones and directing phone calls to appropriate person/area. GS‑07 grade level:
One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS‑06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge - skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position - and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled - in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Specialized experience includes:
Performing patient screening; observing and communicating with patients and visitors; performing specimen collection; assisting with patient exams; performing vital signs and wound care. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience - including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. – Peace Corps – Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g. – professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies - knowledge - and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience - including volunteer experience.

Preferred Experience:

Two years of experience as a military/combat medic.

Duties
  • Duties include - but are not limited to:
    Patient Screening:
    Performing observation-based screening and collecting patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel
  • This may involve completing clinical reminders - obtaining patient health history - chief complaints - medication history - and identification of health-related conditions that may impact the patient's health status
  • Mental Health Services:
    Assists in behavioral/psychiatric situations in an outpatient setting
  • This can include assisting licensed personnel with crisis intervention - management of aggressive or suicidal psychiatric patients - by providing one-to-one observations and applying prevention and management of disruptive behavior techniques (PMDB)
